Dry Ice

And so you burned it all to ashes
You let the fire blaze
You trampled upon your wreckage
You melt in sorrow, vain

They broke you into pieces
The fleeting thoughts that came and vent
With every ounce of guilt assumed
They did you in real good

So you walked along that sullen edge
Reluctant to pick a side
And there you remained, wounded and cold
A smile, a sparkling eye

The imminent began to rise
And responsibility led you on
You made the choice to climb off that edge
And into darkness you trod

Your dreary thoughts sung louder
The dampness sinking deep
You tried to run to find the warmth
But darkness left it unseen

You wandered far, being pursued each step
But far enough you couldn’t get
So you reached within and yanked it out
Your eternal life-living death

You fell apart upon that edge
And over into storm
You dropped and drifted into life
Yet seeming dead and gone

And day by day you seek that shore
The chance once more to breathe
But kicking and flailing in disobedience
You’re caught in the undertow

So from fire to ice you’ve now become
And melt upon this dirt
Drop by drop you lose yourself
And sink into the earth

She feeds on you and drinks you up
Leaving you parched and dry
And in the numbness of your thirst
You slowly e v a   p    o    r    a    t    e
